Peter Harvey has recorded the major Bach vocal works multiple times, with six St Matthew Passions, and three St John Passions, with more planned.

His group, the Magdalena Consort recorded a disc entitled Recreation for the Soul (Bach's view of Church Music was that it should be 'to the honour of God and for the recreation of the soul') and takes for its inspiration his obsession with numbers and the ease with which he incorporated symbolism of various kinds into his music.
