Bach's heroes, ancestors, predecessors at Leipzig are represented on this page. Johann Christoph Bach - a profound composer, according to JS Bach, composed some glorious music which was recorded by members of the Monteverdi Choir with John Eliot Gardiner on the disc entitled Alles mit Gott.

Two 'non-JS Bach' passions - Handel's Brockes Passion and Telemann's Das Selige Erwägen give a glimpse of how rich the Passion repertory was, and are a reminder of how our excessive concentration on Bach's great Passions - although entirely deserved - rather blinds us to the other great works for the period.
